A decent rootbeer. The label made the old woman at the candy shop in Carpinteria laugh and say "heh - typical blonde" before handing it to me. Wow. The soda itself is not bad but nothing amazing either.

Oogave Rootbeer - 6.5

Oogave Rootbeer tries what so many have in the past - replace the sugar with a sugar alternative to make root beer.  They do a decent job of this, but the flavor is very light and weak.  It could be worse, but give me an IBC any day of the week.

Virgil's Zero RootBeer - 2

Virgil's Zero RootBeer also has zero flavor.  It's called "zero" due to the calories stemming from the use of Stevia instead of a decent form of sugar.  It was a good try but just ruins any type of decent flavor that one should expect from a root beer.  Try again, Virgil's.

Avery's Root Beer - 4

One of Avery's 35 varieties. This rootbeer falls a little short in flavor but is otherwise not a bad soda.

Old Town Root Beer Company Sarsaparilla - 7

Thank you to the Plaza Deli in Santa Barbara for continuing to provide our town with such a fantastic variety of flavors like this. This is a solid root beer with a good, sharp flavor.

Sort This Out Birch Beer - 7 thumbs up

A bold and consistent flavor. Clear soda with a birch taste. Not bad! 7 thumbs up. Thank you to Nic Neilsen who picked this up in Santa Ynez for me!

Lurch Birch - 5 Thumbs up

Not a bad birchbeer, but nothing amazing either. Great to find this at the Plaza Deli in Santa Barbara. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you're looking for unusual or vintage sodas, the Plaza Deli in LaCumbre Plaza is the place to go.

Columbia Sodaworks Sarsaparilla - 2 thumbs up

This tastes like corn syrup mixed with black licorice. Terrible aftertaste. Don't walk away from this soda - RUN.

Margos Dark Rootbeer - 9 thumbs up!

Excellent.
If you are looking for a dark rootbeer, then look no further. A big thank you to Ben Farber for bringing this to me from Santa Monica. Instead of cane sugar or HFCS, they use molasses which gives it that great dark taste.

Bundaberg Root Beer - 4

Bundaberg Root Beer: An odd mix of plain root beer and sarsaparilla. Not my style, but neither is Vegemite. Only 4 thumbs up.

Hansens Creamy Root Beer - 5.5

Hansens Creamy Root Beer : Not too bad, especially considering the availability (carried at Trader Joes) and price.  A decent root beer not to be passed but not to be rushed to.

Blue Sky Root Beer - 4.5

Blue Sky Root Beer : Just okay 4.5 thumbs up.  If you're going to do something, you should do it right - and while it's nice to work on an all-natural rootbeer, they do so at the cost of flavor impact.  Save the $1.50 that it will cost you to buy this fancy soda.

Bawls G33kB33r - 7.5

Bawls G33kB33r: Bawls GeekBeer (G33kB33r) does it right!  First, it combines great root beer flavor with an extra kick of caffine.  I really like the bumpy bottle - original!  Hats off to ThinkGeek where I purchased a case:  http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/drinks/2818/

A&W Root Beer Float - 6.5

A&W Root Beer Float : A very convincing root beer float!  Not a bad alternative to the real thing - the flavor masters at A&W hit this on the head.  Still, nothing beats actual icecream in your float...

Zuberfizz Creamy Root Beer

Zuberfizz Creamy Root Beer : 1/2/2007: I have to say that I've come to expect a little more from Zuberfizz. It's like root beer but watered down. Not unpleasing, but not tasty either. Thank you to Nick Picon for bringing this to me from Durango, CO.

Virgils Rootbeer

Virgils Rootbeer : 4/27/2003: For Thanksgiving 2003, my sister bought a 4-pack of these. While I was a bit hesitant due to a disappointing first experience, but was really pleased to see that it might just have been my one bottle. This rootbeer was great! Perhaps not as strong as I would like, but no aftertaste. It's like IBC-lite. A good rootbeer to try.

Verrill Farm Sarsaparilla

Verrill Farm Sarsaparilla : 10/30/2005: Thanks to Seth Avakian for brining me this soda from Concord, Massachusetts! Not much different from its cousin, Verrill Farm Diet Root Beer. It's a bit weak in the taste department and leaves a strange aftertaste. Not altogether bad, but not great either.

Verrill Farm Diet Rootbeer : 10/29/2005: Thanks to Seth Avakian for bringing me this treat all the way from Massachusetts! It has a wonderful smell after you pop the cap. The taste is a bit bland, as most diet drinks have. A good diet root beer, but bring on the real thing!

Trader Joes Root Beer

Trader Joes Root Beer : 3/30/2003: Excellent. Eight and a half thumbs up - this stuff was great. A unique flavor to it. Really very good!

Trader Joes Organic Root Beer

Trader Joes Organic Root Beer : 3/12/2003: This root beer is pretty darn good! It comes in a brown 33.8 oz bottle in an unusual dumbell shape. You can tell that it is organic just because it doesn't leave you with a carmel-syrup taste, but it does its job. I'd give it 7 and a half thumbs up. Not bad.
