KingOfSoda.com

In 2003 I discovered Moxie after watching a segment on the Food network. This “new” soda opened my eyes to a world of different sodas that I had never heard of before. This site catalogs my ratings of each of these sodas. If you find any interesting sodas that are not on my list, I would love to try them. If you are interested in trying any of the sodas that I have here, let me know and I'll try to find one for you.

Senorial Sangria - 2

Senorial Sangria - 2 thumbs up

I'm sure that the intent of this soda was to be one of a light sangria.  Instead, this soda from Mexico tastes like carbonated prune juice.

El Mexicano Agua de Coco – 1.5

El Mexicano Agua de Coco – 1.5 thumbs up
I'm a big fan of coconut and coconut drinks.  Perhaps my expectations were too high on this.  There were real chunks of coconut, but overall the drink was just terrible.  I was also puzzled as the soda both says that it's from Guanajuato, Mexico as well as "product of Thailand."  I'm glad that the Mexicans and Thai have found a way to band together but perhaps they could work harder towards making a more palatable drink.

Mexican Squirt

Mexican Squirt : 6/7/2004: Much like the Mexican coke, this has a large, thick bottle. The taste, however, is mostly plain. Not much to it. It tastes similar to the squirt here in the US. Pleasant lemon-lime taste. 5 thumbs up.

Cristina M. Rating: 5     - It's more of a grapefruit taste

Malta Goya

Malta Goya : 4/20/2003: Now I was particularly happy to find a Goya product. I've been looking ever since the Simpsons used the Bumblebee guy to thank Goya as he was going off the air. This product is non-alcoholic and tastes of liquid malt-balls. Sorta like whoppers. I've learned that there's a lot to be said about the chocolate in whoppers now. 3 thumbs up.

Ryan Rating: 6     - This ok but not delicious malta is a good baseline by which to judge maltas

Jupina

Jupina : 1/21/2004: Probably the best pinapple soda I've ever had. Fantastic. Not too sweet, not too much pinapple. Just right. 8 thumbs up!

Astrid H. Nelson Rating: 7     - I've enjoyed this while visiting Mexican ports, good pineapple flavor without being too sweet.

Jarritos Mandarin

Jarritos Mandarin : 3/28/2003: The first thing that you notice on this drink is its cool bottle. It has a clear bottle that is pressed with neat indentations reminding of the Flintstones. It then presses a flat sticker across, so it loses points there – the sticker wasn't even aligned correctly. This is a product of Mexico and has “natural fruit flavor,” not necessarily flavoring using natural fruits. This orange drink was pretty good – 7 thumbs up. It was similar to an Orange Crush. Nothing to write home about, but not bad.
  Mike Shinn Rating: 7
Average User Rating: 8
Jose Garcia Rating: 8     - One of the best Orange Sodas ever

Goya Sangria

Goya Sangria : 4/22/2003: A nice fruity drink. Six thumbs up. I was happy to drink it but won't need to drink it again. It was a nice red in a clear bottle. I couldn't identify the fruit, but not bad.

Goya Pinapple

Goya Pinapple : 5/29/2004: Lindsay tried this one first and didn't like it much. I can see why. It's a disappointment when compared to its rival, the Goya Coconut. I wonder if I could get a pinacolada taste mixing them together…Otherwise it is refreshing but not much in the way of flavor. It has a creepy yellow-dye color to it. I would have prefered a clear drink to this color. 5.5 thumbs up.

Lindsay Stevenson Rating: 4 - Too much flavoring

Goya Coconut

Goya Coconut : 4/23/2003: Delicious! Very refreshing. I was quite suprised, expecting a strong coconut taste. It wasn't that at all. I'd give this soda an 8 and a half thumbs up - excellent.

Mexican Coca Cola

Mexican Coca Cola : 6/26/2003: Delicious! We should have this kind of coke in the US! It's slightly thicker, more syrupy, but that's great! It doesn't stick or anything, but goes down smooth. Also, the glass bottle that it comes in is thick also - thick glass. I give it a 9 for colas!

Mike Dorantes Rating: 10 - Great...best cola. Much more tasty than US version
Nick Dezan Rating: 9 - It is a great classic dark soda.
Rating: 10
Oz Rating: 9 - Awesome....second only to Royal Crown Draft.
Dave Rating: 9 - I'm old enough to have grown up with the real thing. Coke with HFCS is nowhere near as refreshing as the real thing. That oily HFCS negates Coke's refreshing action. The only coke I now drink is the Mexican stuff I buy at costco. The only thing better is the Chinese version- slightly less sugar, so more of a refreshing bite.

Chaparritas Naranja

Chaparritas Naranja : 3/28/2007: Awesome mini bottle - 8.62 oz! The taste is lacking, though. Like a slightly-watered down NeHi orange. A little like KoolAid.

Barrilitos Pineapple

Barrilitos Pineapple : 3/24/2004: It's hard to make a pineapple soda that's not too overwhealming or too weak. This one is great! I do feel like it's entirely processed, just plain sugar water, but it's good. 5 and a half thumbs up. Nice design on the bottle, but the bottle itself is a little thin - I feel like it could break just by tapping it.
