KingOfSoda.com

In 2003 I discovered Moxie after watching a segment on the Food network. This “new” soda opened my eyes to a world of different sodas that I had never heard of before. This site catalogs my ratings of each of these sodas. If you find any interesting sodas that are not on my list, I would love to try them. If you are interested in trying any of the sodas that I have here, let me know and I'll try to find one for you.

Wold Market Rasperry Soda – 7

Wold Market Rasperry Soda – 7 thumbs up
From Italy, this soda has a refreshing great taste that is not too powerful.  I could buy this several times and enjoy at a party if I wasn't passing out two dozen terrible sodas for my friends to sample.  This soda would be great with vanilla ice cream in a float.  Enjoy!

San Benedetto Lemon - 7

I love the flavor of lemon and this soda doesn't really let you down. It doesn't overwhelm with carbonation or over-bitter like other Italian sodas might. This is a good lemon soda if you are looking for one.

Abbondio Tonica - 1.5

Wow - this is just terrible! It tastes like bile. This was universally disliked at my soda-tasting party. That said, it gets credit for the very nice bottle art. Perhaps I am not quite ready for fine Italian soda just yet.

Cost Plus World Market Orange Passion Mango - 9

9 thumbs up for this awesome fruit drink. It's carbonated, so it barely qualifies as a soda. Still, it is delicious.
I tastes like strong grapefruit, which is good to me. Pick one up when you're at Cost Plus!

World Market Blood Orange Soda - 8.5

World Market Blood Orange Soda - 8.5 Thumbs up!
Theoretically this comes from Italy, but it also says on the label that it was made and bottled in Oakland, CA. Regardless of origin, it is delicious! I highly recommend going to Cost Plus and getting a bunch of this.

Abbondio Rossa & Bitter - 3

Abbondio Rossa & Bitter
From Italy - this soda embodies what a bitter should be. Unfortunately I am not a fan of bitter. Still, my coworkers who I tested this on loved it. If you can get past the fun vintage models on the label, be sure to pour out the soda into a clear glass to get an appreciation for the vibrant rose color.

Stappj Gassosa

Stappj Gassosa : 3/29/2003: This “lemon flavored drink” is no more than mineral water. It comes in a 6.3 oz bottle – a little one. It's very cute, but it packs a punch when it comes to carbonation. I was burping all night. The flavor was truly European and I could live on not having another one. 4 thumbs up.

SanPellegrino Chinotto

SanPellegrino Chinotto : 4/7/2003: Terrible. This tastes like the extract of rotten fruit. 2 thumbs up.

Danny Rating: 4     - You know, it's OK once you get the palate for the Bitters etc. But you know... in my opinion it is the closest taste to Moxie Original Elixir I have ever had... anyone notice that? Amazingly similar (although I think the ingredients are totally different). And both this and original Moxie taste extremely similar to the alcoholic apertif "CYNAR"!!! And that is made from burnt artichoke essence!
Christina Rating: 5     - I could probably like if I drank enough of it.
Andrew Gorman Rating: 9     - Like Moxie in a way- weird goodness from Italy!

SanBitter

SanBitter : 6/22/2003: In its little red bottle it seems like it could be a strawberry or cherry drink. Boy was I wrong! This is the worst tasting, most bitter drink ever! At least there wasn't much to pour out! 1 thumb up. Ugh. I had to spit it out and wash my mouth out.

Danny Rating: 7     - When I was a kid I'd have agreed with you. But actually this is a really good aperitif drink. It's like a soda version of Campari. But it's a taste you have to learn to appreciate... not like most of us will bother! But in fact once you get a taste for it, that occasional rare bottle is quite refreshing & satisfying!

San Benedetto Orange

San Benedetto Orange : 6/14/2007: Sour, like orange juice going south. It's okay. I do like the orange bits in it!

Lorina Lemonade

Lorina Lemonade : 3/14/2003: Very good - sparkeling lemonade, but could have been a bit stronger. 7 out of 10 points

Le Village Organgaide

Le Village Organgaide : 3/30/2003: Very good, but not great. It doesn't hold a hat to Orangina. It was a little orangy, but mostly just soda water. 5 thumbs up.
